The unusual curve shaped bill nicely matches the shape of fiddler crab burrows!
The bird pushes its bill into the crabs burrow, pulls out the crab and if it’s muddy the Whimbrel may give it a wash.
Before swallowing the crab the bird may break off its claws and legs!! When eating berries it picks them off with tip of the bill, releases and catches the berry in its throat.
