EGGS AND REPRODUCTION

Whimbrel make a shallow bowl in the ground for a nest. They make it with their feet and may throw a bit of grass in.
They usually lay between 2 and 5 eggs.

The chicks (how cute!) are covered in fluffy down and are active from hatching. They may leave the nest within one or two hours! After 2 or 3 weeks they can fly.

The adults usually stay with the chicks for about 3 weeks to shelter them at night (cuddle up and keep them warm) and to warn them to take cover if in danger.
